This past spring a number of our firm members recorded interviews for AIA Broadcastr, an app now being piloted that, in the words of the AIA, allows listeners to “learn more about New York City’s architecture through the voice of practicing architects and AIA members.”

Anthony P. Schirripa, FAIA, IIDA Appointed to the AIA Board of Directors

Congratulations to Mancini•Duffy/TSC’s Chairman and CEO Tony Schirripa, who was elected to the National Board of Directors of the AIA. Tony will serve on the Board from the close of the 2012 annual meeting of the Board until the close of its 2014 meeting.

Previously, Tony served as a Director on the AIA New York State Board of Directors, as well as President of the AIA New York Chapter in 2010.

Of the appointment, Executive Director of the AIA New York Chapter, Rick Bell, FAIA said: "Tony Schirripa was elected to represent the architects of New York on the AIA National Board because of the depth of his understanding of the profession and his articulate advocacy of the value of design. As President of the AIA New York Chapter, Tony led our strategic planning effort, envisioning the future of how we work together to improve our practice, our city and our world. An activist, thinker and doer, Tony Schirripa joins the AIA Board as someone who knows how to make things happen."

At the Center for Architecture on December 7th, Anthony P. Schirripa, FAIA, IIDA, passed the gavel to Margaret O’Donoghue Castillo, AIA, LEED AP, the new President of the AIA NY Chapter. During Tony’s tenure, he took as his theme “Architect as Leader,” which explored the positive impact that architects can have not only on their projects and firms, but also on the larger community. Tony’s speech on Tuesday evening touched on the many high points of his tenure as president, including the Architects’ Fast-Track Leadership professional development series launched in September of 2010, events and exhibitions put on by the chapter (such as Innovate: Integrate, on view until January 15th, 2011), and new technology initiatives implemented. 2010 AIA New York Chapter College of Fellows

In early March, the AIA New York Chapter hosted a reception for members elevated to the College of Fellows in 2010. Among the fourteen new Fellows – and the 134 nationwide – was Mancini•Duffy’s Chairman and CEO Tony Schirripa, 2010 President of AIA NY and a major force in helping establish the Center for Architecture back in 2003. Fellows on hand shared with a packed hall career highlights – such as the Queens Botanical Garden Visitor Center (Joan Krevlin, FAIA, LEED AP) and the stunning renovation of the Eldridge Street Synagogue (Walter Sedovic, FAIA, LEED AP) – that left many of us in the crowd feeling awed and inspired.
